Ahh, JUNE. The boundary between spring and summer, where the possibilities of the warm months ahead hang ripe like juicy red cherries.
What does it mean to be born in June? What are people with June birthdays like? What effect does celebrating your birthday in June every year have upon you?
After exhaustive research and a few Pimms, I’m here to talk about how lovely it is to enjoy your birthday smack-dab in the sixth month of the year.
What kind of people are born in June?
The zodiac signs for June are Gemini (until June 20) and Cancer (June 21 onwards). Yeehaw. If you’re into star signs, you’ll already know what that means, so I won’t go into great detail here.
What I will say is that absolutely 100% of the people I know with June birthdays (all three of them) are extraordinarily affable. Gregarious. Convivial. Charming. They’re natural-born extroverts, actively kind and good-natured to all those who cross their paths. Indeed, the rest of us are quite lucky that a good twelfth of humanity is born in June. They’re good eggs.
On the less sunshine-and-rainbows side, the June-born can be a bit overly chatty. They’re the ones who you might not want to sit next to on a long-haul flight, even though they do mean well (the poor dears). Their concentration can be rather scattered – because they feel just peachy about everything? – so you might not want to team up with them to crank out your tax forms.
What famous people were born in June?
Might as well say it up front: Donald Trump’s birthday is 14 June. I’m sure he’s a little ray of sunshine in his own orange-tufted head.
But, like you June-born people always say, that’s the exception that proves the rule (right?). Other lovely modern faces that began their time on earth in June include Michael J. Fox, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Lionel Messi, Lana Del Rey, Elon Musk, and Kanye West. See what I mean about extroverts? The June-born are movers and shakers, even if they do tend to hop from one project to another with startling speed.
Throughout history, people with June birthdays have offered humanity a heck of a lot. We’re talking big names like Marilyn Monroe, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Maurice Sendak – all of them wild things born under a June moon. Josephine Baker of banana-girdle fame celebrated her big day in June, as did Hattie McDaniel, the first African-American entertainer to win an Oscar. Hoorah for them this month.
June: The best birthday month ever?
June isn’t the most common birthday month (that would be September), but it’s up there in the top half of the chart. In addition to being popular, it’s also been declared by a highly scientific UK study to be the BEST month in which to have a birthday.
What’s more, there’s one specific day that’s supposedly the very best of them all: 20 JUNE. It’s the start of the British summer, and the longest period of daylight in the UK – so you not only get the best day, but also the most of it. If you’re born on this magical date, you’ve already won the birthday lottery, and I might guess that you tend to win raffles at a greater frequency as well. You lucky dog, you.
A full three-quarters of June babies have reported that they wouldn’t want a birthday at any other time of the year. The other quarter just got sunburned for the first time this season – don’t worry. Aloe cream will help.
Who do you know with a June birthday?
This month, let’s celebrate June. A bit of an ouroboros of a toast? Perhaps. But I’ll take any excuse to raise another glass of Pimms this summer. Is it Wimbledon time yet?
Were you born in June? Do you know anyone who was? Does this description fit them to a T, or are they more curmudgeonly than effervescent? Let me know in the comments below.
